Define what the case must transport
A useful enquiry starts with the exact console configuration, not the model name alone. Confirm that the unit is a DiGiCo S21, record its actual overall envelope in the transport orientation, and list anything that travels with it or is removed before packing. Photos showing the front, rear, sides and connector area help the case supplier distinguish fixed dimensions from knobs, feet, plugs and other projections.
The buyer should also describe the journey: storage, vehicle loading, venue handling and frequency of setup. These facts do not prove a particular construction specification, but they let supplier and buyer discuss the handling sequence around the real job instead of choosing details from a generic flight-case template.
Verify opening, operation and cabling
Review the case as a workflow. The console must be placed and removed without trapping hands or striking controls, while the lid and any moving structure need a clear opening path. If the S21 will be operated in or beside the case, agree the working orientation, access to controls and where the removed or opened cover will sit before approving a drawing.
Treat cable space as an interface rather than an arbitrary gap. Identify every connector that may remain attached during use, the direction in which each cable exits, and the hand space needed to connect and disconnect it. Check the full open-and-close sequence with representative cables so a connector, bend or bundle cannot be pinched by an edge or moving part.
Send an RFQ that can be engineered
For a comparable quotation, provide the destination and quantity, required delivery timing, measured console dimensions with units, annotated photos, operating orientation, cable-exit requirements and the planned packing sequence. State which accessories must share the case and which travel separately. If any measurement is provisional, label it instead of asking the supplier to treat it as final.
Ask the supplier to return a drawing or dimensional proposal that identifies support zones, protected clearances, opening direction, cable paths and external handling points. Approval should reference the same dated measurement sheet used for the RFQ; changes to the console configuration or accessories should trigger a documented recheck before production.
